Money money money

E read out something from the newspaper today morning(Since I have
stopped reading them). Let me confess, I didn't even know about the
Fardeen Khan controversy.

Anyways as I was saying, this happened in Calcutta 4 years back. A guy was travelling on his bike when he was hit by a bus. He was rushed to the Ruby General Hospital. He showed them his mediclaim of Rs 65,000. They started the treatment and then stopped saying they needed at least Rs 15,000 there and then. The people who had taken the guy there somehow managed to collect Rs 2,000, but the hospital people refused to restart the treatment. The guy said his parents would reach soon. The hospital waited for 45 minutes. The guy died.

What kind of doctors are these who care for money more than human beings? The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has passed a order saying they have to treat any critical patient whatever the case might be in future. What about the parents? The commission asked the hospital to pay them Rs 10 lakh. Now you know the worth of human life - Rs 10 lakh.

this no longer a shocking thing AB. people have started taking it for granted - that doctors are into a business. i shudder to think about the guy. what strength he must have had to be able to speak cohorently inspite of a life-taking accident and what a wish to live.

I guess he even realised he would die. I can't imagine what he must have gone through lying there waiting for mercy.

Yeah, do agree that's terrible. Rs 10 lakh- for one life!!!!

And what's the F Khan contoversy, btw? Am completely cut off from reality, ever since I rejoined college. Too lazy to get up at 6.30 to meet the newspaper guy and ask him.

Sort of off topic, but only just - can someone explain your currency to me? As far as I can tell, you've got rupees (which I know of) and you've got this lakh (which I've never heard of).

What is a lakh? And how much is it worth in say, USD or UK Pounds?

couchpotato: Well, the owner of Provogue who was arrested for doing hash and cocaine at his place named some biggies like Fardeen. My poor boy can't even dope in peace:(

Anon: Identify yourself. For I don't remember to have let that out in my blog. But this is not about social activism. Is it? It is about humanity.

sathish: Exactly my point.

Jay: Trust you to bring a smile.

Now for some mathematics session;) A pound converted into Indian currency translates roughly into Rs 84. A lakh has five zeros. In pounds, Rs 10,00,000 (lakhs) would be? Calculate yourself and tell me how much it is:) Your incentive... a guy delivered to your doorstep the next morning.

human life isnt worth shit. in this day and age when one can buy a baby for 5000 rupees off the street in bombay, 10 lakhs is a tad overvalued.
